Last time I saw one flying was back in the 80's. A silent 30,000 and hearing the noise of a couple of Merlins in sync must have been terrific.

What a fantastic sight! The last time I saw a Mosquito fly was back in the early 90s. Sadly that one was destroyed in an accident in 1996. It's so great that AVSPECS have got this beauty back in the air. Although it will never come to the UK and I will likely never see her it is wonderful to know the Mosquito lives once more. She is one of my nations most iconic aircraft and deserves to be preserved in her truest form, in the sky. Of course the Spitfire Mk.IX and T.IX next to her could also have the same said about them. :)

We were so lucky to witness her flying. Although she did fly in Auckland after the rebuild was finished, the owner in the US graciously allowed her to stay on for this one airshow. Never before have I witnessed an entire airfield (around 30,000 that day) go absolutely silent so they could listen to her. It was truly awesome.

I remember the sound very well! Beautiful machine in every way.

I am very glad that you guys down in New Zealand were given the chance to see her at airshows. I know that your nation has done much to preserve historic aircraft with the work done by TVAL and AVSPECs etc, so you certainly deserve it.

I live just 8 miles away from Salisbury Hall, which is where the mosquito was designed constructed and first flew. The prototype is still there currently under static restoration at a small museum based at the sight dedicated to de Havilland and his aircraft. So for me the Mosquito is very much a special aircraft to me. [link]

There is a few projects to get Mosquitos flying in the UK and some are not too far away so hopefully someday I will get that experience again.

My partner says 'rumour has it the next one out of the mold is heading to the UK' so there may end up being a few of them back in the air over there. :)
